Glipizide is an older Sulfonylurea drug that stimulates the beta cells in the pancreas to produce more insulin. It iis controversial. It’s opponents believe it may cause hypos, beta cell burnout, possible heart disease, and weight gain. Some believe it is better to go straight to insulin rather than risk sulfonylurea drugs.
