In Dungeons & Dragons, a game that heavily inspired Stranger Things, the Demogorgon first appeared in 1976 as a two-headed humanoid creature with incredible psychic powers. It became a more fearsome beast in AD&D’s version of the game, with tentacles, a gaping maw, and sibilant beast-like cries.
